Welcome to the website of Bradford Salem Rugby Club! Bradford Salem is based in Heaton, Bradford West Yorkshire. We are a well established Yorkshire Division one Rugby Union Club. A friendly club that can cater for all levels of player.

2008/2009 Season

Welcome to one and all to the New Season, Salem and shaping up well with two pre-season friendlies under their belt with games against Yarnbury and another team ;-)

A mixed Salem XV had a good warm up match gainst a strong Yarnbury side. It was a game split into 4 twenty minutes sessions with interchanges made throughout. There was some good rugby played and it is definately something to build on.

A first XV squad have a friendly game at home to West Park on Saturday and the 2nd XV have their first merit game away at North Ribblesdale

The first Yorkshire One game is at Heath on Saturday the 13th of September - 3pm KO

E.L.V.s (Experimental Law Variations)

This season will see the implementation of the ELVs by the International Rugby Board. These are not little green characters in childrens story books but several changes to the laws in our glorious game, the main idea is to try and make the game faster and more entertaining to watch. Highlights of the ELVs are:-

  • You can no longer pass back the ball into your own 22 and kick to touch to gain territory, the line out will be taken from where the ball was kicked
  • Mauls can be pulled down by the opposition by grabbing the upper body of the attacking payer and bringing them down
  • Defending backs at a scrum have to be positionned 5 metres back from the scrum
  • No requirement to match player numbers in the line out

    Training

    We train every Tuesday and Thursday from at 7pm prompt at Shay Lane (Salem's Ground). Tuesday is handling and fitness, thursday is for Team Run Throughs. Training is open to anyone!!! The more the merrier, get fit and socialise with a beer or two after!
